Vid 11:00 på Remembrance söndag Dover män, women and children gathered at the People of Dover’s War Memorial to honour the memory of all the service men and women who gave their lives in armed conflicts past and present. Over 50 wreaths were laid during the service, covering the memorial in red poppies, as a token of the Town’s thanks for the sacrifices made to secure our peace and freedom.
Paraden av standarder, veteraner och andra organisationer marscherade till krigsminnesmärket framför Maison Dieu-huset där de två minuter långa tystnaden iakttogs med Civic Leaders. Kransnedläggningen leddes av ställföreträdande löjtnanten i Kent, The Lord Northbourne, på Hans Majestät Konungens vägnar, följt av stadsborgmästaren i Dover, Fullmäktigeledamot Susan Jones, the Chairperson of Dover District Council, Cllr Gordon Cowan and Member of Parliament for Dover and Deal Mrs. Natalie Elphicke. Därefter lades kransar av representanter för uniformstjänsterna och veteranföreningarna. Everyone was welcome to pay their tribute including local organisations and the families of the fallen.
Vårt tack går till alla som deltog i vår gudstjänst för att minnas de stupade, inklusive White Cliffs Branch of the Royal British Legion som ställde ut Garden of Remembrance och samlade in till Poppy Appeal i alla väder under de senaste två veckorna. We are also grateful for the oration by Nick Chatwin Rn(rtd), Parade Marshal Mr Alan Tinker of the Dover and Deal Sea Cadets, Mr John Harknett från Royal Green Jackets Association för att ha spelat den sista posten och reveille, Betteshanger Colliery Welfare Band and Cantium Brass Band for leading the music, Standard Bärare, and the young people of our Cadet forces who attended and acted as sentries during the service.
The Memorial Service was officiated by the Reverend Catherine Tucker Team Rector for the Dover Town Team Ministry and Flt. Lt. Malcom Sawyer, RAFVR (rtd), Kaplan till Royal British Legion (Dover).
The service finished with one verse of National Anthem.
The Parade marsche sedan tillbaka genom staden till torget där borgmästaren tog salut vid St. Mariakyrkan.
