Naalala ni Dover ang 193 Ang mga pasahero at tauhan na nawalan ng buhay nang ang Herald of Free Enterprise ay lumubog sa labas ng Zeebrugge 30 taon na ang nakalilipas sa gabi ng 6 Marso 1987 at an anniversary service at St Mary’s Church in the Town. The tragedy changed the Town forever as almost everyone in our community had family members and friends who were part of the sea-faring community. There remains a deep and abiding sadness for all whose lives were cut short and for those who continue to suffer.
Ang alkalde at alkalde ng Dover, Councillor and Mrs Neil Rix attended the church service in Dover. On the previous day the Mayor attended the commemorations held in Zeebrugge. Neil said
“It is a privilege to participate in my official capacity in the commemorations of the terrible events of 30 Taong nakalipas. The Herald of Free Enterprise disaster touched everyone in Dover – like many others in our town I remember exactly where I was and who I was speaking to when the newsflash came over the radio”
The events of that night will never be forgotten.
