Plus de 80 sportifs et femmes, Les juniors et les dignitaires ont traversé la chaîne par P&O Ferry tôt samedi matin, on 10th June 2017, to take part in the 44th annual Dover – Calais Festival of Sport. Les villes se relaient pour accueillir le festival, qui est aussi vieux que leur jumelage, depuis 1973. La compétition était à la fois amicale et féroce avec plus de 160 participants vying for the Victor Ludorum trophy in the 5 sporting disciplines that took part in the day, Table Tennis, Sea Angling, Basketball, Shooting & Pool. Dover managed to secure the cup for a second year, dans un 3 – 2 victoire.
Le maire de la ville de Douvres, Cllr Neil Rix said, “It was a very good day and I think everyone involved had a great day out. Nous avons tous été impressionnés par le niveau d'hospitalité que nous ont réservé les habitants de Calais et nous sommes impatients de leur rendre cette hospitalité l'année prochaine lorsqu'ils viendront à Douvres.. Dover Town Council hopes to improve the Twinning Festival every year and we will be looking to increase the sporting disciplines taking part in the line up in 2018”.
