Encima 80 deportistas y mujeres, jóvenes y dignatarios cruzaron el canal por P&O Ferry temprano el sábado por la mañana, on 10th June 2017, to take part in the 44th annual Dover – Calais Festival of Sport. Los municipios se turnan para acoger el festival, que es tan antiguo como su hermanamiento, desde 1973. La competencia fue amistosa y feroz con más de 160 participants vying for the Victor Ludorum trophy in the 5 sporting disciplines that took part in the day, Table Tennis, Sea Angling, Basketball, Shooting & Pool. Dover managed to secure the cup for a second year, en un 3 – 2 victoria.
The Town Mayor of Dover, Cllr Neil Rix said, “It was a very good day and I think everyone involved had a great day out. Todos quedamos impresionados por el nivel de hospitalidad que nos mostró la gente de Calais y esperamos poder devolverles esa hospitalidad el próximo año cuando vengan a Dover.. Dover Town Council hopes to improve the Twinning Festival every year and we will be looking to increase the sporting disciplines taking part in the line up in 2018”.
