World War II Memorial Bench welcomed by the Dover White Cliffs Royal British Legion

A commemorative bench marking the 70 anniversary of the end of World War II has been installed in sight of the People of Dover’s War Memorial. Dover Town Council funded the purchase and installation. The Council worked in partnership with the Dover White Cliffs Branch of the Royal British Legion to agree the location and Dover District Council gave necessary permissions. The new bench was warmly welcomed by officers of the RBL, 泰德·史密斯 (Vice Chairman), Brian Walton (Secretary) and Christine Walton (出納員), when they met the Town Mayor, 議員克里斯珍貴. “I think it’s absolutely wonderful that you can see the bench near the War Memorial as you drive or walk up the High Street” said Ted Smith.

The special bench was produced by David Ogilvie in Scotland. The Town Council is waiting for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to issue final authorisation for a similar bench commemorating World War I to be installed near to the Zeebrugge Raid Memorial at St James Cemetery.
