Plus de 100 sportsmen and women, juniors and dignitaries crossed the channel by P& O Ferry early Saturday morning, sur 6e juin 2015, to take part in the 43e annual Dover – Calais Festival of Sport. The towns have been taking it in turns to host the festival, which is as old as their twinning, since 1973. The competition was both friendly and fierce with over 200 participants vying for the Victor Ludorum trophy in categories ranging from fencing and sea angling to bridge and table tennis. Calais managed finally to wrestle the cup from Dover, its holder for the past 3 années, in a 5 à 4 victory.
Deputy Mayor Neil Rix said, “It was a very good day and I think everyone involved had a great day out. Nous avons tous été impressionnés par le niveau d'hospitalité que nous ont réservé les habitants de Calais et nous sommes impatients de leur rendre cette hospitalité l'année prochaine lorsqu'ils viendront à Douvres.. Le conseil municipal de Douvres espère améliorer le festival chaque année et nous chercherons à augmenter les événements pour en inclure un autre. 3 sports au programme en 2016. »
