Dover-Calais Festival of Sport

Over 100 sportsmen and women, juniors and dignitaries crossed the channel by P& O Ferry early Saturday morning, Pe 6lea iunie 2015, to take part in the 43rd annual Dover – Calais Festival of Sport. The towns have been taking it in turns to host the festival, which is as old as their twinning, since 1973. The competition was both friendly and fierce with over 200 participants vying for the Victor Ludorum trophy in categories ranging from fencing and sea angling to bridge and table tennis. Calais managed finally to wrestle the cup from Dover, its holder for the past 3 an, in a 5 la 4 victory.

Deputy Mayor Neil Rix said, “It was a very good day and I think everyone involved had a great day out. We were all impressed by the level of hospitality shown to us by the people of Calais and we look forward to returning that hospitality next year when they come to Dover. Dover Town Council hopes to improve the Festival every year and we will be looking to increase the events to include another 3 sports in the line up in 2016.”

If you have a team interested in taking part please contact Dover Town Council on 01304 242625.
