Over 100 sportsmen and women, juniors and dignitaries crossed the channel by P& O Ferry early Saturday morning, på 6th juni 2015, to take part in the 43rd annual Dover – Calais Festival of Sport. The towns have been taking it in turns to host the festival, which is as old as their twinning, since 1973. The competition was both friendly and fierce with over 200 participants vying for the Victor Ludorum trophy in categories ranging from fencing and sea angling to bridge and table tennis. Calais managed finally to wrestle the cup from Dover, its holder for the past 3 år, in a 5 til 4 victory.
Deputy Mayor Neil Rix said, “It was a very good day and I think everyone involved had a great day out. Vi var alle imponerede over niveauet af gæstfrihed vist os af befolkningen i Calais, og vi ser frem til at vende tilbage til den gæstfrihed næste år, når de kommer til Dover. Dover Town Council håber at forbedre festivalen hvert år, og vi vil forsøge at øge begivenhederne til at omfatte endnu en 3 sport i rækken i 2016.”
