Op 11:00 op zondag 11 November 2018, 100 jaar na de ondertekening van de wapenstilstand in 1918, Dover zullen alle militairen en vrouwen die hun leven in dienst van hun land hebben gegeven onthouden. In this year of special thanksgiving for the end of the First World War, a mural commemorating the sacrifices made by those who served their country in time of war has been installed next to the War Memorial.

“They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;

They sit no more at familiar tables of home;

They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;

They sleep beyond England’s foam”.

Een parade van de normen, veterans and other organisations will assemble outside the former Marks & Spencer in Biggin Street at 10.30am and march to the War Memorial in front of Maison Dieu House where two minutes silence will be observed at 11.00am. De herdenkingsdienst zal worden uitgevoerd door de Mayor's Honorary Kapelaan, Reverend Dr John Walker and will be followed by the laying of wreaths. De parade zal dan marcheren terug door de stad naar de Grote Markt. Raadslid Susan Jones, de Eerwaarde Town burgemeester van Dover zal de begroeting bij St nemen. Mary's Church.

Service sheets will be available to members of the public at the service and is also available for download from the Town Council’s website hier.

Priory Road will be closed from the roundabout to the Ladywell traffic lights, from approximately 10.50am, while the service is in progress.

The Royal British Legion Dover White Cliffs Branch will be laying out the Legion’s Memorial Crosses in the Garden of Remembrance and receiving donations in support of the 2018 Poppy Appeal from Friday 26th Oktober.

The Dover Garden of Remembrance looks amazing. The British Legion Memorial Crosses will be in place from now until 2 weeks after Remembrance Sunday and the wreaths for a month. Anybody wishing to collect their wreath will be able to do so or they will be re-cycled.
