Dover Christmas 2017 Switched On

Christmas cheer was spread throughout Dover Town Centre during the weekend of 2nd & 3rd December. For the first time the annual Christmas celebration continued on through to Sunday. The festive fun started early on Saturday Morning with a huge crowd gathering for the Switch On of the Christmas Tree and High Street Festive Lights as it got dark in the early evening.

Dover’s Christmas Tree is bigger, better, brighter and more beautiful than in all previous years, standing tall at 30ft with over 4,000 lights illuminating the Market Square.

Thousands of Dover people and visitors came to enjoy the fun with their families over the two days. There was something for everyone with the Christmas market in Dover’s Heritage Quarter, festive activities at Biggin Hall, indoor workshops and craft stalls in a shop unit, outdoor market stalls throughout town and street performers giving the High Street that extra Christmas sparkle. Children made the most of the free traditional helter-skelter and carousel together with other activities near the Market Square and Cannon Street and of course a visit to Santa!

The Christmas Lights were switched on this year by Mr and Mrs Turner in memory of Kelly’s brave fight against illness that was shared by so many local people. They were joined by the Mayor Councillor Neil Rix and the Chairman of the Civic and Special Projects Committee, கவுன்சிலர் ஜான் Lamoon.

The Mayor said

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Kelly’s Mum and Dad for being with us at the Switch On – our hearts go out to you. And thanks to all who came out during the weekendthe atmosphere throughout both days was superb as the whole community of Dover came together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.”

Dover’s Christmas Event could not happen without a real spirit of partnership and Dover Town Council would like to thank all those organisations and individuals who gave so generously to make it such a special weekend.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
