Liz Taylor, Services Manager at East Kent Alzheimer’s Society, will discuss the business benefits of becoming a Dementia Friendly Business and will deliver a Free 1-hour Dementia Friends session.
Dementia is one of the greatest challenges we face in society today. With the UK statutory retirement age rising, and the number of people with dementia expected to rise to 1 million by 2021, we will see many more people developing dementia whilst still in employment. Many others will seek to combine being a carer with working. Businesses need to future proof all aspects of their operations. Consumers want businesses and organisations which value their customers.
Businesses are now realising it makes good business sense to be dementia-friendly. From retail to housing, utilities to entertainment, finance to transport, all sectors have a part to play. By developing an understanding of the condition, businesses can make a huge difference to people living with dementia and their quality of life.
Join other businesses across Kent to achieve the Dementia Friendly Business recognition symbol.
Becoming more dementia-friendly means:
ØHaving a senior responsible owner and a working group to support this work, ensuring it is embedded at all levels;
ØUnderstanding the impact of dementia and how it changes customer needs;
ØConsidering cómo un negocio productos, procesos y servicios pueden ayudar a los clientes afectados por la demencia;
V IVIENDA orientación demencia de usar para hacer cambios dentro de la tienda, locales u oficinas en todos los niveles de la organización;
ØSupporting empleados a su cargo, que podrían verse afectadas por la demencia;
ØSupporting las personas que puedan estar mostrando signos de demencia, ya sean clientes o empleados.
Esto no quiere decir que se espera que las empresas:
ØBecome la demencia de usar desde el primer día;
ØIdentify customers who have dementia;
ØAsk customers difficult or intrusive questions;
ØBreach existing legislation such as the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005;
ØIgnore normal security processes and procedures.
