Council Saves Minibus for Local Youngsters

The Civic and Special Projects Committee of the Council has stepped in to answer the appeal for funds to repair the minibus belonging to the local 354 (डोवर) Air Training Corps. A massive unexpected repair bill of £2,200 had meant the bus was off the road and youngsters had already missed out on trips and training. Many members come from families who don’t have the money to pay for transport and benefit hugely from the activities and opportunities the Corps gives to complete qualifications including BTECs in Aviation and Personal Studies and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. In addition, other local groups were losing out as the ATC lend the bus out when they are not using it themselves.

The Committee heard how Corps members had raised £430 themselves by bag packing at a local supermarket and through donations towards the repairs and voted a grant of £1,770 to allow the repairs to go ahead and get the bus back on the road.
