Starosta města Dover 2017-18 – Radní Neil Rix

Přes 200 local people and civic dignitaries gathered to witness Councillor Neil Rix’s installation as Town Mayor of Dover for a second year at the Annual Mayor Making Meeting of the Town Council in the historic Maison Dieu on 25 Smět 2017.

The meeting opened with all standing for a minute’s silence in memory of those who died in the Manchester terrorist attack.

The Mayor then made his formal declaration of acceptance of office. In characteristic fashion Neil dispensed with the usual pre-written speech and spoke of his determination to continue to bring all of his personal and business expertise and experience into making Dover a strong and cohesive community and a better and more prosperous place for everyone to live and work.

Neil said that he had attended over 400 engagements as Mayor and as Speaker of the Cinque Ports during the last year and was both honoured and humbled at the trust being placed in him as Mayor to continue to work and serve the Town where he had been born, lived and built his business. Neil then thanked his fellow Councillors and all those who had worked with him to build a better Dover. Neil will be supported in his civic role by his wife, Mayoress, Mrs Jackie Rix, the Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Roger Walkden, and the Deputy Mayoress Councillor Ann Jenner.

Reverend Dr John Walker, Honorary Chaplain to the Town Council responded to the tone set by Neil by setting aside his pre-written prayers for a more spontaneous and from the heart response to the needs of the Town and the wider situation in the Country.

The meeting then moved to more normal business. Councillors supported an urgent grant application from Age UK Dover to save their Saturday sessions and approved the Council’s 2016-17 Financial Reports and Accounts.
