Open space and fresh air has never seemed more essential and precious than during lockdown. Looking after an allotment was one of the very few reasons that we were allowed out. There was very little covid-19 risk working in the open air with easy social distancing. The Town Council quickly put in place all necessary safety measures and the Allotments Team were soon up to speed with new lettings. Lots of local people discovered for the first time the fun to be had getting out and growing your own – and it’s not just the traditional cabbages and potatoes – the seed catalogues are full of unusual and tasty vegetable and fruit to enjoy.
