3.6 million day visitors to Dover are estimated to be worth £110m to the local economy. Across the district 5,000 jobs depend on tourism. The Visitor Information Centre in the Market Square serves 120,000 people each year pointing them to local attractions and facilities. Local people also benefit from the coach, theatre and bookings service, the shop and provision of information about local events. The Museum has internationally famous exhibits including the award winning Bronze Age Boat and everybody’s favourite Polar Bear!
The Town Council are stepping up support for Tourism by increasing funding for the Visitor Information Centre to £25,000 and have put an extra £10,000 aside to help plug a funding gap and remove entry fees altogether. Mr Bear could soon be making many more friends!
