Maer tref Dover wedi'i osod yn y Maison Dieu hanesyddol

dros 150 local residents and civic dignitaries gathered at the historic Maison Dieu on 14 Mai 2025 to witness the installation of Councillor Edward Biggs as Town Mayor of Dover for a second consecutive year at the Annual Mayor Making Meeting of the Town Council. Guests and Councillors alike were pleased to see the annual Mayor Making return to its traditional home at the Maison Dieu after 5 flynyddoedd.

The ceremony opened with a warm welcome and a triumphant note from the Berghemote Horn — a sound not heard in many years — followed by the formal procession of Councillors.

Cllr Biggs then made his official declaration of acceptance of office. In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to uniting the community, drawing on collective support and experience to build a stronger, more cohesive Dover — a town where everyone can thrive.

Cllr Anuj Bedi also formally accepted a second term as Deputy Town Mayor, and the Mayor confirmed Laurie Porter will continue as the nominated civic partner for 2025/26, gladly accepting another year in the role.

The Mayor extended heartfelt thanks to his fellow Councillors and all who have worked alongside him to improve the town. A special tribute was given to the Honorary Recorder, who is retiring after 24 years of dedicated service to Dover Town Council and the people of Dover.

Reverend Melissa Carter offered a warm message to guests and councillors and led prayers for the year ahead.

Following the formal proceedings, guests gathered in the Stone Hall to enjoy a buffet banquet, accompanied by music from the Haysden Octet. Special thanks were given to Love Blooms for the floral arrangements, Albane Photography, The Lydden Bell Caterers, and the staff at Dover Town Council and Maison Dieu team for helping make the occasion so memorable.
