多佛, 1st November 2024 – Dover Town Council, in partnership with the White Cliffs Branch of the Royal British Legion, unveiled a unique Remembrance display featuring the First World War Soldier installation in Market Square. The statue, created by sculptor Mark Humphreys and locally known as Tommy, has been repurposed from the weather-worn seafront memorial and enhanced with a handmade carpet of silk and crocheted poppies.
As part of the Legion’s “Thank You 100” campaign, the statue honours the centenary of the end of the First World War and symbolises the courage and sacrifice of soldiers who served. 这个临时展览让社区能够反思并表达对所有几个世纪以来为西方自由而奋斗的人们的感激之情. 停战日之后, 雕像将被移至伯戈因堡, 多佛, 它将成为俯瞰白崖的永久纪念碑.
