Discover Dover Library at the Dover Discovery Centre

Located in Market Square, Dover Library is a welcoming community space offering free access to books, computers, Wi-Fi, local information, family activities, creative groups and much more.

A free local space for reading, learning and connection

Dover Library, based at the Dover Discovery Centre in Market Square, is free to join and provides a wide range of services for residents, families, myfyrwyr, visitors and community groups.

From borrowing books and using public computers to joining creative sessions, children’s activities, reading groups and local history support, the library continues to play an important role in helping people access information, enjoy culture and connect with others.

Public computers and Wi-Fi

Free bookable public computers and Wi-Fi are available. Computers shut down 15 minutes before closing time.

Printing

A4 black and white and colour printing is available.

Llungopïo

A3 and A4 black and white and colour photocopying is available.

Scanner

Scanning facilities are available for library users.

Microform reader printer

Useful for research, records and local studies.

Portable hearing loop

Supporting better access for visitors who may need hearing assistance.

Regular library activities

Dover Library hosts a varied programme of activities for children, families, adults, writers, readers and anyone looking to meet others in a friendly setting.

For babies, children and families

  • Playground creative play on Mondays, 10:30AC I 11:15wyf yn. Booking essential.
  • Baby Rhyme Time for 0 i 3 year olds on Wednesdays, with sessions at 10:15am and 11:15wyf yn. Booking essential.
  • Family Playground creative play for families and under 5s on selected Saturdays, 10:30AC I 11:15wyf yn. Booking essential.
  • Lego Club on alternate Saturdays, 10:30am to midday.
  • Saturday Children’s Craft Club monthly on the last Saturday, 11AC I 12:30pm.
  • Storytime fortnightly on Saturdays at 2pm.

For readers and writers

  • Dover Library Creative Writing Group meets monthly on the first Tuesday, 10:30AC I 11:30wyf yn.
  • Saturday Reading Group meets monthly on the second Saturday at 2pm.
  • Visitors can also find a reading group through the library service.

Creative and social groups

  • Songwriting Group meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month, 2pm to 4pm.
  • Scrabble Club meets on Thursdays, 11am i 1pm.
  • Grefft, writing, poetry and other group activities may also be available through related library services.

Digital, family history and local studies support

  • IT Buddy support is available by booking with the library.
  • Family History and Local Studies Help is also available by appointment.
  • Visitors can search other library activities and events through the local Kent directory.

Access and visitor information

Dover Library aims to be a welcoming and accessible space for the community.

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.

Social Story guide

A Social Story guide is available to help people with autism or other neurodiverse conditions understand what to expect when visiting the library.

The library processes ENTCS bus pass applications.

Birth registration

Registration of births is available by appointment on Monday, Mercher, Thursday and Friday, with a private room available.

24/7 Ask a Kent Librarian

For out of hours enquiries, the Ask a Kent Librarian service is available 24 awr y dydd, 7 diwrnod yr wythnos.

Dover Library is open Monday to Saturday. It is closed on Sundays and bank holidays.

Sylwch: libraries are closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Libraries close at 4pm on New Year’s Eve.

Getting there

Dover Library is located at the Dover Discovery Centre in Market Square, making it easy to reach from the town centre.

Pay and Display car parks are available at Albany Place ac Stembrook. Designated bays for Blue Badge holders are available on Queen Street.
